ABSTRACT
This research work examines the legitimization of ideology in the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi's political speeches. It focuses on the use of language in speeches of the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi. This study adopts computer mediated approach due to the availability of these speeches online. It employs the purposive sampling method, were speeches that relate with the election were purposively selected out of the many speeches of Peter Obi available online. The collected data which consist of written speeches of Peter Obi online were contextually and critically analyzed. The research work however demonstrates the Four legitimisation strategies as proposed by Theo Van Leeuwen which are sufficiently employed by Peter Obi in his Presidential election speeches. Furthermore, this study discovered that Peter Obi's employs this strategies, and seek to unearthed the various ideologies Obi's have encoded using manipulation of linguistic codes and system in the speeches before and after the elections.
