ABSTRACT
This work is on the involvement of parents’ teachers' association in the provision of resources in support for basic schools in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State. In order to carry out the study, four (4) research questions were raised. The population of the study consisted of 124 respondents. Since the population was small, the entire population was used as sample. Hence, sample was no longer necessary. A questionnaire made up of 20 items was used to elicit response from the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using Mean (X) and Standard Deviation (SD). The findings that emerged from the study revealed that; the aspects of PTA involvement in the support of the schools is very low, specifically, the level of PTA involvement in the provision of staff personnel is very low, the findings also revealed that the level of PTA involvement in the provision of facilities in basic schools is very low, in addition, the level of PTA involvement in the provision of instructional materials in basic school is low, the findings also showed that, the level of PTA in the provision of sports facilities in basic schools is very low.
Based on the findings, it recommended that, Government should review the edict establishing the PTA and make attendance to PTA meetings and membership of PTA compulsory for parents in their children's schools, Government should try and provide enough funds and school materials and delegate government officials as representatives at PTA meetings, Government should make policies regarding school community relationships and empowering PTA to make levies to help provide for the school and Teachers and the PTA should see themselves as partners in the process of educating the children.
