ABSTRACT
This project explored the insufficiency of children's educational programs available on traditional Nigerian television and new media platforms, specifically focusing on YouTube, as supplement educational resources. With the increasing accessibility and popularity of digital media among children, it is crucial to evaluate the educational value and effectiveness of these platforms in supporting children's learning and development. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Through content analysis, a selection of children's educational programs from television and YouTube were examined. The research findings shed light on the strengths and weaknesses of children's educational programs on Nigerian television and YouTube as supplements to formal education. The study highlighted areas where these programs may fall short in terms of providing comprehensive and engaging educational content. Moreover, it explored the potential negative impacts of excessive screen time and unregulated content on children's learning experiences. By identifying the insufficiencies of existing programs, this project to informed the development of more effective and impactful educational content for children. The research outcomes contributed to the ongoing discussions on the role of media in children's education and provided insights for parents, educators, and content creators to enhance the educational value of children's programs in the digital age.
