ABSTRACT
The study was designed to determine the influence of instructional materials for the teaching and learning of Biology in Senior secondary schools in Egor local government area. Four research question were raised to guild the research. The study adopted a survey research method. A sample of sixty(60) Biology teachers from SS1-3 which were randomly from 5 senior secondary schools from the twenty-nine (29) government Senior Secondary schools in Egor Local government area of Edo state.The instrument used in collection of data is a questionnaire. The data collected were x analysed using simple percentage.Finding revealed the following. The result revealed that; textbooks, television, computer, charts, interactive boards, and the internet/Web Environmentare predominantly used in the schools of study, instructional materials help to foster better retention among students, make the teaching and learning of biology realistic, and the use of instructional materials removes the abstract nature of some contents, cost of instructional materials, teacherswill, poor technical and physical infrastructure of learning environment, and Scarcity of resources on instructional materials in Biology are all factors that impede the use of instructional materials for teaching Biology, government should make provision of instructional materials and provide resource centers for teachers to get them a tasubsidizedrate, alsoStudents and teachers should engage in improvisations of instructional materials.Based on the results, it was recommended that teachers should source instructional materials for effective lesson delivery government should provide incentives to enable teachers to acquire instructional materials where necessary school management should ensure that every student has the prescribed textbook(IntegratedSciencetextbook) alongside with the workbook, school management should also assist teachers who wish to improvise instructional materials by way xi of supplementing the cos.
