THE INFLUENCE OF TECHNOLOGY ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study examines the influence of technology on the academic performance of business education students in tertiary institution in Edo state, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, utilizing a structured questionnaire as the primary instrument for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to determine the extent to which these technological variables influence the academic performance of business education students. The population comprises of 138 business education students from 300 to 400 level. Five research questions were raised which guided the study. The instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts. The reliability of the instrument was ensured by using Cronbach Alpha statistics which yielded a co-efficient of 0.86. The findings reveals that all five technological variables such as digital resources, technological infrastructure, student’s proficiency in technology, use of internet facilities and digital literacy influence the academic performance of business education students in tertiary institutions in Edo state to a high extent. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the university administration should offer equitable access to digital resources while also investing in current and dependable technological infrastructure. Additionally developing student’s proficiency in technology, ensuring dependable internet access, and encouraging digital literacy should be prioritized.
