ABSTRACT

This study is to assess the influence of  teachers attitude on the academic performance of pupils in public primary schools.  The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of teachers attitude on the academic performance of pupils in public primary schools in Uhunmwonde Local Government area, Edo State. To carry out the study,three research questions were raised. The study was a descriptive study. The population of the study comprised of three hundred teachers (300) in public primary schools in Uhnmwonde Local Government area, Edo State. The sample was 20% of the total population who were selected using stratified sampling method which gave a sample of 60.

The research Instrument used for the Collection of data was questioniare. The reliability of the questionnaire was ascertained using test-retest method. Thereafter, the Pearson Product Moment Coefficient (Pearson r) was used to determine its level of reliability.  A correlation Coefficient of 0.70 was obtained and its showed that the Instruments was reliable. The major findings of the study revealed that the attitude of teachers in public primary schools is positive, The extent to which teachers a affects pupils academic performance is high.

Based on these findings the following recommendations were made: Teachers should be trained to enhance their classroom management skills, Teachers should also be trained in order to enhance their pedagogical attitude and A supportive classroom atmosphere should be provided by teachers to enhance pupils academic performance.
