THE INFLUENCE OF STRIKE ON THE SKILL ACQUISITION OF BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

This study determined the influence of strike action on the skill acquisition of business education students in the University of Benin. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and one hypothesis was formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised three hundred and seventy-three (373) Business Education students in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. The sample consisted of one hundred and fifty (150) Business Education students in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Faculty of Education University of Benin. A proportionate sampling technique (40%) was used to select the sample size of the study. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire titled Influence of Strike Action on the Skill Acquisition of Business Education Students (ISASABES). It was however subjected to face validity by the researcher’s supervisor and one other expert in the Department of Vocational and Technical Education. The reliability was determined using the internal consistency method which was measured using Cronbach alpha statistic. The instrument was administered to 20 business education students who are not part of the sample to be used for this study but are part of the population of the study. However, the instrument yielded an alpha value of 0.81. The data collected were analyzed using mean (x), standard deviation (SD), and two sample independent ttest.
