Summary
The study investigated the influence of strike action on the academic performance of students in the University of Benin, Edo state. The population of the study was made up of fifty six thousand seven hundred and two students in all departments in the University of Benin, and a sample of one hundred and thirty three (133) students were used for the study. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The instrument used in generating data for the study was closed ended questionnaire. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts in measurement and evaluation. The reliability of the instrument based on Pearson product moment correlation coefficient test was 0.72. The data generated for the study was analyzed with the use of descriptive statistic (tables and percentages). From the analysis it was discovered that:
ASUU strike action to some extent is not beneficial to students’ academic endeavors.
The reading habit for students seem to deteriorate during ASUU strike because reading becomes boring and students engage in other activities like learning a skill instead of reading their books.
