ABSTRACT

This study investigates the influence of sports on the social development of primary school children in Benin City. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data on sports participation patterns, social skills development, and perceptions of the role of sports in fostering social interactions.

Results indicate that sports participation significantly contributes to various aspects of social development, including having new friends, improved communication skills, teamwork abilities, and excitement among participants. The findings underscore the importance of integrating sports programs into primary school curricula to promote holistic development and well-being among children.

Recommendations include the integration of sports in the curriculum, teacher training, promotion of inclusive sports activities, community engagement, and further research to explore long-term effect
