ABSTRACT
Community development is an important aspect of any country. It is the reason behind while most youth move from one community to other within a state or from one state to the other within a country. Young people constitute a clear assets to community development programmes when they are positively empowered to be active citizens. It is based on this view this study was designed to investigate on the influence of social work intervention in youth participation in community development. Four (4) research questions were raised to guide this study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design combining both quantitative and qualitative research strategy. The population of the study consist of youth residing in Egor Local Government area and which consist of ten (10) ward and twelve (12) communities. Simple random techniques was used to sample one hundred fifty respondents from two communities in Egor Local government namely ugbighoko and evbotubu. The data was collected using a self – structured and validated questionnaire which have a reliability of 0.74. The data collected was analyzed using mean, simple percentage and frequency count. The result of this finding reveals that age influence youth participation in community development, parental factor influence youth participation in community development and youth involvement in the monitoring and evaluation of the project influence their participation in community development. Based on this finding it was recommended among other that Parent should encourage their youth to actively participate in the development of their community and Media should be televising programme that will enlighten the mind of the youth on community development.
