ABSTRACT

This research work reports the findings of a study that investigates the influence of social media on reading habits of undergraduate students of Library and Information Science in University of Benin. The study adopts a descriptive survey design. The population consists of two hundred and ninety-nine (299) undergraduate students of Library and Information Science in University of Benin, Benin City and out of which a sample size of 150 respondents was selected through proportionate sampling technique. Questionnaire method was used for data collection from the respondents and frequency count, percentages, mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis. While the hypothesis was tested using average mean score. The findings from this research showed the influence of social media on reading habits of undergraduate students of Library and Information Science in University of Benin,, while social media was widely embraced, its influence on learning and reading habits varies among individuals. The study made some recommendations which includes that the University of Benin should provide support systems and resources to help undergraduate students of Library and Information Science to manage stress and maintain a healthy digital lifestyle.
