ABSTRACT

The study is focused on the influence of social media on fashion and dressing with the study focused on Benson Idahosa University. The objectives of the study is to determine how frequently undergraduates copy dress patterns from social media (Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter). This research is also aimed at discovering the social media platform that influences undergraduates’ dress patterns the most and also ascertain factors responsible for the choice of dress patterns on social media. For its methodology, the survey research method was used to gather the data used for the study. The findings revealed that students of BIU are all social media users and they are aware of trending dressing patterns on social media to a high extent. The findings also indicate that the respondents have a negative attitude towards the fashion style they’re exposed to on social media. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that students of BIU have a positive attitude towards the fashion style they’re exposed to on social media and that there is a relationship between social media and style of dressing amongst undergraduate students of the tertiary institution. The researcher recommended among others that Social media influencers should be careful of what they put out there, since social networks are capable of influencing the attitude of youths.
