ABSTRACT
The findings of this study has revealed the positive impact of scientific literacy on student engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills within the context of chemistry teaching. It is anticipated that the integration of scientific literacy will enhance students' understanding of chemistry concepts and their application to real-world scenarios, fostering a deeper appreciation for the subject. This research project investigated the influence of scientific literacy on the sociocritical and problem-oriented approach to teaching chemistry. Scientific literacy, encompassing knowledge, skills, and attitudes, is essential in empowering students to engage critically with scientific concepts and make informed decisions in today's technology-driven society. The research adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for this study comprised of all the five thousand and sixty four (5,064) senior secondary school one (SS1) in all the 21 public schools in Ikpoba Okha local government of Edo state. Based on the 2023 record from the ministry of Education, there are 21 senior secondary schools students in the local government.
