ABSTRACT
Today, the educational sector of Nigeria is confronted with series of changes and reforms. Numerous factors which affects teaching and learning have been examined which correspond to the accommodation of students' need and diverse learning. One of such factor is the effect of school location on students’ academic performance. The study examined the effect of school location on secondary school students’ academic performance in computer studies using Egor Local Government Area of Edo State as a case study. The study adopted the ex-post facto research design. The sample of the study was made up of 60 respondents from senior secondary schools from Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample of the study was selected using the multi- stage sampling procedure and a questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The study revealed that school location, school structure, school size and school ownership affects the academic performance of students in Computer Studies. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made; Infrastructural materials and equipments must be made available by the government as they are in the urban schools to encourage both the students and teachers in the rural schools, schools in the rural areas should be improved upon by the government in terms of teaching conditions and facilities so that teachers will not reject their posting to the rural schools, Computer Science teachers should discourage gender stereotype in teaching and learning of science subjects irrespective of the geographical school location and school administrators at the school level should guarantee competent and efficient administration of education in both private and public schools.
