ABSTRACT

It is crucial for the seamless operation of the educational system that records are kept and managed properly. This is due to the fact that information created both internally and outside aids school administrators in making decisions and also helps schools develop effective records and information management systems. All school records must be kept and managed properly in order to meet the wide objectives of senior secondary education. Teachers and school administration face difficulties as a result of the modern record-keeping trend. Lack of expertise on maintaining and managing school records prevents people from realizing their goals and bridging regarding effectiveness. The administrative duties of the school administration are not carried out by keeping the proper school records. They put out little to no effort, and some lack the necessary academic credentials due to their incapacity. Despite the significance of student records in achieving educational goals, school administration does not appear to be managing these records properly. The correct maintenance of school records is not given enough attention, which leads to a variety of problems, including lost files and records, unattended classes, staff members who falsify data, etc. The following are some of the goals of this research project: to examine the impact of record-keeping on the effectiveness of senior secondary schools in the Oredo local government area of Benin City, Edo State; to identify the types of records that are currently kept in senior secondary schools; to look into the efforts made by secondary school management and teachers to ensure that records are properly kept, maintained, and managed in order to increase effectiveness. For the study, a sample of 100 out of 250 teachers, or 40% of the total number of teachers, was randomly chosen from 5 out of 14 secondary schools. Since the population was homogeneous, a simple random procedure was used to determine the sample size. According to the research's findings, about 40% of respondents are interested in keeping accurate records, but more than 30% struggle with the subject due to a lack of resources and using a learning environment that is not favorable. The research's findings also showed that instructors are struggling to teach the subject because they lack the necessary resources, causing them to beg the government to give them laptops to use in class to facilitate learning. The efficacy of record keeping systems is hampered by a number of variables, including a lack of computers and an unfavorable learning environment. The results showed that more than 40% of students lack interest in record keeping due to a lack of resources that would enable them to do practical tasks and facilitate their learning.
