ABSTRACT

The major objective of this study is to find out the influence politics has on the management of secondary schools, The study aims to examine how politics influences the availability of quality education in secondary schools, the implementation of education policy in senior secondary schools, the academic performance of students in secondary schools, and the provision of infrastructure development in secondary schools in Benin City, Edo State. Four research questions were formulated to guide the investigation. A survey research design was employed, targeting principals and vice principals of senior secondary schools, as they are directly involved in school administration and have firsthand experience. Data analysis was conducted using frequency counts and percentages. The study revealed a negative impact of poor funding on the quality of education in senior secondary schools and highlighted that low teacher salaries affect education quality in Benin City. It concluded that political stability is crucial for the effective implementation of education policies, as it ensures that policies and reforms are not abruptly altered with changes in government, allowing for long-term planning and implementation. A stable political environment facilitates meaningful dialogue and collaboration among educators, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders regarding education policies and initiatives
