ABSTRACT
The subject matter of this research work was to examine the influence of Pidgin in English language among the senior secondary school students of OredoLocal Govt. Area. The main objective of this researchwork was to find out the influence of Nigerian Pidgin on students confidence in communication and student’s language proficiency. The design used for the study is a descriptive research method.
Data was gathered from (50) English language teachers through a structured questionnaire, from Oredo senior secondary school students. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study, from which the questionnaire was designed. From the analyzed data, it showed that students frequently use Pidgin in their daily communication within the school premises, lack of effective usage of English language has promptedstudents to use Pidgin in their communication and the use of pidgin by male and female students haveencouraged wrong use and expression of English language.
It was recommended that Teachers and students across the Nation should engage the use of Standard English language in the communication rather than the use of Pidgin. In addition, the use of Pidgin by students during official communication should not be encouraged. We can achieve this by implementing laws that can curb wrong use of English Language in the school premises
