This study was aimed at ascertaining the influence of health education in the prevention of typhoid among University of Benin students. In order to achieve the intended objectives of the study, three research questions were raised and one hundred and seventy – three (173) respondents drawn from five faculties in the University.

The design used for the study was the descriptive survey research design. A self-constructed questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The instrument was validated using content validity. The Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used to test for the reliability of the instrument, and a reliability coefficient of 0.78 was gotten which showed that the instrument was reliable. Data collected was analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage.

The findings of the research revealed that University of Benin students have good knowledge about typhoid fever as they could identify the causative organism being S. typhae, they know the mode of transmission of the disease, and mode of prevention. the students regularly practice hand washing, avoid drinking untreated water, and eat raw fruits and vegetables which if not properly washed could lead to contracting typhoid if the fruits are contaminated. Based on the findings and conclusion, the following recommendations were made seeing that access to clean and potable water is very central in prevention of water borne  diseases such as typhoid fever, therefore school administrators should ensure the provision of clean and potable water in all parts of the school. Appropriate measures should be taken to ensure treatment of well water such as chlorination which is the main source of water into the school. The university administrators should make it mandatory for all faculties to have good toilets. Public toilets should be provided in all faculties and buildings especially where they have toilet and sanitation challenges.
