ABSTRACT
The study investigated the influence of guidance and counselling programme on career choice of public senior secondary school in Egor local government area of Edo state. To achieve the purpose of this study, five research questions were raised and examined. The population of the study comprised of two thousand, four hundred and fifty eight (2,458) students. The sample size for the study was made up of two hundred (200) SS2 students. The questionnaire titled Influence of Career Guidance Programmes on Secondary School Students Career Choice in Egor Local Government Area, Benin City, was the instrument for the data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean and standard deviation. The findings from the study include that the types of guidance and counselling services available in public senior secondary school in Egor Local Government Area Of Edo State include appraisal service, counselling services, placement and follow-up services. It was concluded that there is high impact of guidance and Counselling on student career choice development in public senior secondary school in Egor Local Government Area Of Edo State. The study recommended among other schools to increase the availability of counselling services which may increase the availability and accessibility of counselling services. The government should also invest in recruiting and training more qualified guidance counselling to ensure that each student has adequate counselling staff.
