ABSTRACT

This purpose of this study is to find out the influence of financial and non-financial rewards on the performance of student athletes in the University of Benin. Four research purpose were raised and for corresponding hypothesis ere formulated at 0.05 level of significance

The correlation research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study consisted of 244 students’ athletes in the University of Benin. The sample size of the study comprised of 124 students athletes in university of Benin. The validity of the study was determined by the researcher’s supervisor and two other in the department of human kinetics nad sports science. The Cronbach alpha statistics result gotten from the reliability test were 0.76, indicating that the instrument was reliable.

The study revealed that there is no significant difference between financial reward and performance of University of Benin student’s athletes and that there is a significant relationship between Non-financial reward and it influence on the performance of University of Benin student’s athletes. The researcher therefore recommend that Since the study ascertains that there is a significant difference between financial reward and performance of University of Benin student’s athletes, university of Benin can offer scholarships to student athletes based on their performance and academic progress. This can alleviate financial stress and allow them to focus more on their sports and studies and that University of Benin can provide financial incentives for outstanding athletic achievements, such as winning championships, breaking records, or achieving specific milestones. This can motivate athletes to excel.
