ABSTRACT
The study is on the influence of ethnicity and religion on the Nigerian political system: a case study of Edo State examines the influence Ethnicity and Religion has on the Nigeria's Political system, how and why it influences it, it's positive and negative effects. this research work is prompted by the outplay and outcome of Ethnicity and Religion in politics as seen in the increasing nature of social insurgency, ethno-religious violence, the voting pattern in elections, cases of marginalization and Intolerance resulting to the impediment on the political system in Nigeria. this research work is descriptive with the use of primary and secondary sources of data collection, and upon findings, Ethnicity and Religion are agents which are responsible in forming and shaping the lifestyle and perspective of individuals, also noting that there is a positive aspect of Ethnicity and Religion, which the writer recommends that the manipulative use of Ethnicity and Religion by individuals for selfish gains should be shunned.
