ABSTRACT

The study examines the influence of English language proficiency on academic performance of non-native speakers in secondary schools in Egor local Government Area of Edo State. The study was carried out among five thousand, four hundred and forty-nine (5,449) senior secondary school students in the local government area. The sample of the study comprised one hundred (100) students drawn from the twelve (12) randomly selected 45 secondary schools in that local government. In order to provide a guide for the study, five (5) research questions were revised. The closed ended questionnaire was used in generating data for the study and the data generated was analyzed with the use of descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages).
