ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at finding the impact of drama among secondary school students. A case of Oredo local government area of Edo state. This study reviewed works of different authors and to guide this study, four research questions were raised to assess the impact of drama among secondary school students.
The study adopted descriptive survey research method. From the research question listed above. A questionnaire was curated with 20 items that attempt to answer the research questions. The feedback from the respondents was analyzed and presented in tables.
The findings of the study revealed that drama promote imagination and creativity among secondary students, and it was observed that drama motivate secondary school students to learn and that drama foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills among secondary students, it shown that drama promote exploring and evaluating ideas in the teaching process, it was shown that drama enhance good communication skills in secondary school and that drama is an effective teaching method. It was also revealed that drama is a teaching method that improve literacy skills in secondary school and that drama as a teaching method boost students confidence in class, it was observed that drama as a teaching method helps teacher to easily interpret the curriculum to students and that drama as a teaching method promote group discussion among students. Findings from the studies, reveals that drama is time consuming and that drama delay the school syllabus, it was observed that drama can not be used in all the subjects in secondary school, it shown that drama is mostly effective in small classes and that drama is mostly effective with schools that are properly equipped, it was also revealed that drama promote good retention among secondary schools students and that drama in teaching in secondary school helps to develop student's, it was observed that drama makes students to be a problem solver and that drama build a good student and teacher relationship , it was shown that drama makes students to be a life long learner. Based on the findings recommendation was made; Schools should provide a good conducive environment for learning in other to improve the teaching and learning process. Learners differences should be identified by teacher in other not to affect the teaching process .Teachers should be properly motivated and be satisfied with their job . Government should endeavor with adequate facilities, and teaching aid. This will enhance a conducive climate for learning, thereby minimizing students stress which often engender acts of deviance.
