ABSTRACT

This research work provides an in-depth identification, classification, and discussion of influences of cartoons in language acquisition and development of children. The purpose of this research work is to highlight not just the negative and positive influence of animated program in children but also examines ways in which parents should be held responsible in the daily consumption of cartoons by their wards by explaining the several harms as well as growth that these programs has on their children. To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher used the tenet of observational learning model to analyze the instrument of data collected (questionnaire) by 50 parents around the Egor and Ovia North East local governments in Edo state. The study revealed that parents are supportive of their children’s viewing or streaming several animated programs, while some parents support their children’s preference of English language over the language used in their immediate environment. The researcher recommends a further research on parental influence and control over language acquisition in their wards.
