ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to assess the study investigated the influence of artificial intelligence on students’ learning in higher institutions. The instrument employed for data collection was a self-structured questionnaire with a reliability test of 0.824 which shows the genuineness of the instrument. The self-structured questionnaire was developed and administered to 200 undergraduate students from across the faculties in University of Benin, Edo State after validation of the instrument by two lecturers. The data from their responses were analyzed with the use of simple percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The study revealed that students view AI as a valuable tool that significantly enhances their education, with positive impacts in various learning areas. Despite the challenges associated with integrating AI, students believe it contributes to a higher quality of education in Nigerian higher institutions, and there is no gender disparity in its influence. These results underscore AI's potential to improve education in Nigeria and emphasize the need to address implementation challenges for more effective use in higher education settings. The recommendations for higher education institutions in Nigeria involve prioritizing the increased integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the learning process through the development and implementation of AI-driven educational tools and resources, aiming to enhance the quality and personalization of students' learning experiences. To facilitate this, institutions should invest in training and ongoing support for educators to effectively utilize AI tools, covering both technical and pedagogical aspects. Furthermore, educational authorities are advised to establish mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating AI's implementation, including regular assessments to assess its impact and address challenges effectively. Lastly, institutions should maintain gender-neutral policies and initiatives to ensure equitable access and opportunities for all students as AI becomes more prominent in education.
