ABSTRACT
Youths have the tendency of imitating and getting influenced by entertaining contents the view on any form of media. Anime is one of those entertaining contents. This study therefore investigated the influence of anime on youth’s behaviour. This study was anchored by the cultivation & acculturation theory and social theory, the survey design was employed with the aid of 14-item questionnaire administered to 250 UNIBEN, Ekehuan students who are exposed to watching anime programmes. Random sampling was adopted to select students from various levels with background knowledge of the study. The aid of frequency tables, simple percentage, and mean scores were used to analyze the data generated. The study revealed that a lot of UNIBEN students view anime and enjoy its contents. It was also derived from the study that the factors attracting students to anime is its entertaining impacts, its animated realism, and high production quality. It was also discovered that the exposure to anime contents has influenced the youth’s behaviour and attitude in their social life and made youths admire the Japanese culture feigning ignorance to their local culture. The study also gave recommendations on how youth’s influence can be regulated in accordance to their social and cultural lifestyle.
