ABSTRACT
This study deals with costume and makeup as an element of promoting and preserving culture; using the Ezigbo festival as a case study. Based on the fact that costume and makeup helps in identifying age grades, functions , gender, and the locale of a particular group of people , This study anchored the Ezigbo festival that is being held in the months of August / September by the people of Asaba ,Delta state. Participatory observation method was used to generate information from the community . Personal interview was also conducted . The study revealed that makeup and costume have great impact in promoting and preserving culture in festivals .
The study recommends that there should be proper documentation of the types of costumes used during the festival celebration at all times, costumes should also be used as a tool of empowerment , provision and promotion of dignity to the youths .
