ABSTRACT

This study investigated the impact of internet of behaviour and smart home technology on library users, experience and satisfaction of library service among library users of the University of Benin. The study adopted descriptive survey research design in sampling the opinions of users and staff of John Harris Library in Edo sate. The population of the study was 4500 undergraduate students across 3 faculties in the University of Benin, Benin City. Through multistage sampling technique, Four hundred and fifty (450) copies of questionnaires was administered and three hundred and fiftyone (351) copies of questionnaires was retrieved from the respondents and usable. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Frequencies were used in analyzing the bio-data of the respondents; statistical mean. The findings from analyzed include: that the level of Influence of Internet of behaviour And Smart Home Technology among library users is very high. That Digital Catalogue (OPAC), Security and surveillance systems, Wi-Fi connectivity and charging stations, Smart lighting and energy management, automated checkout kiosk and Digital signage are the types of smart home technologies in Academic Libraries. More so, cost of implementation, Privacy concern, Digital divide, Data security risk, Technological infrastructure and user acceptance and learning curve are the constraints to Internet of Behaviour and Smart Home Technology on Library user. Based on the findings, some recommendations were made which include: Proper budgeting should be put in place for the implementation of these technologies. Libraries should ensure that librarians are able to develop relevant digital skills and competencies by designing training programmes like workshops, conferences and symposiums.
