Summary
This research investigated the impact of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) on Nigerian bank performance using Access Bank and UBA as case studies. The findings suggest that M&A can have a positive impact, offering a potential solution to bank failures in Nigeria. The research is presented in five chapters. Chapter one provides the introduction, including the research problem, objectives, questions, hypotheses, scope, justification, and plan. Chapter two reviews existing literature on M&A, covering concepts, types, reasons for undertaking M&A, benefits, stages of approval, relevant theories (value-increasing, synergy, concentration), and the existing research gap. Chapter three details the research methodology, including the research design, target population, sampling technique, data collection methods, and data analysis methods. Chapter four analyzes and interprets the data using regression and correlation techniques. Finally, chapter five summarizes the research, presents theoretical and empirical findings, draws conclusions, offers recommendations, and suggests areas for further study.
