ABSTRACT
This research study carried out is to critically investigate the impacts of insurgency on national development (case study of Egor Local Government area, Edo state ).
The data used for the research were obtained from hundred questionnaire respondents (100). The questionnaire was administered to elicit information and the data collected and was analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the social sciences) using tables and percentages.
It was discovered that insurgency has been the major problem facing Nigeria in line with the research questions that were raised. The results revealed that unemployment, lack of proper education by majority of the youths and the high rate of poverty is responsible for growing insurgency. It also revealed that the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDP’s) is a measure to help residents against insurgencies. On the other hand, it revealed that social workers have a great role to play in advocating, counselling, linking resources and dispatching community welfare resources to individuals affected by insurgencies.
