ABSTRACT

This study investigated the impact of workshop and equipment on the performance of Industrial Technical Education Students in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. Four research questions were raised and answered in this study. The study adopted descriptive survey which was deemed suitable for this study; it investigated and collected views of the respondents on the impact of workshop and equipment on the performance of Industrial Technical Education Students in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. This study was conducted in University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. The population of the study consists of over two hundred and fifty (250) students of Industrial Technical Education, University of Benin, Benin City, Edo state. The sample of this study was One Hundred and Fifty (150) ITE students drawn through simple random sampling technique from all the four course options. Twenty (20) wood work/building technology students, eighty (80) Electrical/Electronic Technology students, Forty (40) Automobile Technology Students, and Ten (10) Metal Work Technology Students were selected. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire which was constructed by the researcher. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that Industrial Technical Education departments do not have adequate equipment for learning ITE courses even though the institutions have the financial capacity to buy adequate modern equipment for learning. Workshops available only have items or equipment that were provided when the departments were first established of which most of them are already obsolete or grounded.
