Abstract
This study examined the impact of training and retraining in enhancing manpower development among local government employees in Oredo local government council, in Benin City, Edo State. Four research objectives were formulated. The study was conducted among the employees in Oredo local government council, Edo State. The human capital theory was used to illuminate this study. The study gathered data through primary and secondary sources. The primary data were collected through a well-structured questionnaire circulated to two hundred and fifty (250) staff of Oredo Local Government Council. The population of this study was the entire employees of the local government council. The one-time research survey method was used in the collection of data. The data collected were entered manually into the computer and analyzed with Statistical Package of Social Sciences, version 22.0. The variables were cross tabulated between major and sub-categories and tested with appropriate standardized statistics and other relevant measures and results were presented in tables, charts and graphs. The study revealed that training and retraining of employees help to boost their efficiencies in service delivery. The study therefore concludes that manpower training and retraining is of immerse benefit to the employees of Oredo local council in Edo State as this have positively improve their service delivery and productivity level. The study also recommends that adequate fund should be made available by the management of Oredo local government for the training of employees as at when due.
