Abstract

This study investigates the impact of school environmenton the academic performance of students. The study made use of the Survey Research Design and University Demonstration Secondary school was the area of study for this project, using the random sampling technique, a sample of 120 students was selected to represent the entire population, a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was administered and used to obtain data from the respondents. Data collected was analysed using Simple percentage and meaningful conclusions was drawn. The study's findings emphasize the significance of school environment in influencing student academic performance and these recommendations were made; Facilities such as libraries, science and computer laboratories should be equipped appropriately, there is need to ensure that structures that are to be used as learning facilities should be designed in such a way that ventilation will be adequate given the fact that students perform better academically when they study in wellventilated environment, schools should also be located within close proximity to homes. This will help in reducing the time, energy and resources spent on travelling by students from home to schools, Schools should enhance accessibility to extracurricular activities to promote a well-rounded education experience and fostering social and emotional growth and policies should be implemented to regulate class sizes, particularly in urban schools, ensuring that teachers can provide adequate attention and support to each student.
