ABSTRACT
The main purpose of teacher training on the Implementation of Integrated Science Curriculum in Junior Secondary Schools in Ovia North East Local Government area ofEdo State is to increase the teacher’s competency towards teaching learning process inthe education department. Previous studies on the subject have been hampered byinadequate measures of teacher training and difficulties addressing the non-randomselection of teachers to students and of teachers to training. We address these issues byestimating models that include detailed measures of pre-service and in-service training, a rich set of time-varying covariates, and student, teacher, and school fixed effects. Our results suggest that only two of the forms of teacher training we study influence productivity. First, content-focused teacher professional development is positively associated with productivity in junior secondary schools in Ovia North East. Second, more experienced teachers appear more effective in teaching Integrated Science. There isno evidence that either pre-service (undergraduate) training or the scholastic aptitude of teachers influences their ability to increase student achievement. The objectives of this study are to investigate how teacher training affects the students’ achievements in the
class. For these purpose teachers in Ovia North East Local Government Junior Secondary schools taking integrated science were administered a questionnaire. A
questionnaire was developed to collected data. The respondents were divided into two
groups: one group was taught by trained teachers while other group was taught by
untrained teachers. Their views were recorded on the questionnaire. At the end of this
experiment, a big difference was seen among those students who were taught by trained
teachers while nominal change was noted among students taught by untrained teachers.
So our results suggest that teachers must be trained for the better academic achievements
in Integrated Science of the students in Junior Secondary School in Ovia North East
Local Government.
