ABSTRACT
This research project examined the impact of stress on workers’ productivity using the Ifo local Government Area of Ogun State as a case study. The objective of the study was to ascertain the causes of stress in selected public school teachers in Ifo local government. Find out whether stress had any effect on teachers’ productivity, examine how public school teachers in Ifo local government handle stress and to suggest that teachers can effectively manage stress by performing various physical activities. The sources of data collection for this study were primary and secondary sources of data. All the data collected for the study were analyzed using frequencies and simple percentages. After the analysis, the following findings were observed; it was revealed that majority of the teachers in Ifo local government like their working environment, it was also observed that the teachers work under pressure hence, they do not consider deadlines a source of stress, it was discovered that the teachers are satisfied with their jobs so they do not feel they are in the wrong profession. The study therefore recommended amongst others that, the working environment should be adequately maintained to aid effective teaching and learning. The government should make provisions for maintenance of school buildings to avoid dilapidation. The teachers should be encouraged to perform excellently by increasing their salaries periodically and paying their allowances or remunerations as at when due, to enable teachers discharge their duties effectively and efficiently. In conclusion, the causes of stress do not have a direct impact on the productivity of the respondents. The respondents are able to handle stress effectively.
