ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of social media on modern Nigerian literature. It focuses on how social media has influenced language, character, plot and theme as demonstrated in Oyinkan Braithwaite’s My Sister, the Serial Killer. This study adopted Sigmund Freud’s Psychological theory in analysing the effect of social media on the author and the text, using relevant excerpts drawn from Braithwaite’s My Sister, the Serial Killer. The study found that modern Nigerian literature has been influenced by social media platforms; and this influence is seen in the language used by the characters, the development of the plot, the characterisation and the themes present in the text. The study concludes that the relationship social media has with literature is dynamic. In other words, as social media platforms continue to evolve, the relationship between social media and literature will adapt and evolve as well.
