ABSTRACT
The study examined the impact of privatization of electricity in Benin City by Benin electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). It employed a sample size of 400 respondents. The random sampling was carried in Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Oredo and partly in Ovia North-East Local government areas of Benin City. The data that emanated were analyzed both descriptive and inferentially with the SPSS Version 24. The findings are: it was discovered that electricity supply did not improve in Benin City with privatization; Poor welfare scheme of workers affected their productivity; poor billing rating system mainly based on estimated billings; and incompetent technical staff affected electricity
There is variability in the electricity supply in the quarters of Benin City; and the t-test confirmed that the situation before privatization is better than that after privatization. The following were recommended that a clear policy of privatization should be pursued to clarify some unclear issues; government should have a better grasp on privatization; checks should be instituted to minimize inefficiencies in the supply of electricity.
