ABSTRACT
This study explores the impact of nutrition on athletic performance. Four research questions were raised to guide the study The design adopted for this study is the survey research design. The sample size consisted of 100 respondents randomly selected from different Departments in the University of Benin . Questionnaires were used for the collection of data from 100 (one hundred) respondents which were basically students. The research instrument was validated by the researcher's supervisor. The Cronbach alpha statistical tool was used in testing the reliability of the instrument which yielded an alpha value of 0.79 after which the research instruments were administered by the researcher herself. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that dietary components, including macronutrients, micronutrients, and hydration, and their specific impacts the performance of Athletes. It was also revealed that the need for personalized nutrition plans tailored to the individual needs of athletes, considering factors such as the type of sport. Based on the findings, The researcher further revealed that there are consequences of insufficient nutritional intake among athletes, which should be put into consideration as coaches, during training and when planning their nutritional schedules. Ultimately, this study reinforces the critical connection between proper nutrition and peak athletic performance, advocating for increased awareness and education on nutritional strategies among athletes and coaches.
