ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of modern technologies tools on the academic performance of library and information science students in university of Benin, tomake this possible four research and purpose of the study was issued to find out the types of modern technologies tools, find out the purpose of using modern technologies tools by Library and Information students, find out the impact of modern technologies tools on Library and Information students’ academic performance and to find out the challenges to the use of modern technologies tools by Library and Information students.
The study discovered that Internet Browsing, Computer, Projector, E-mail, Telephones, Teleconferencing, Facsimile Machine (Fax), Web 2.0, CD-ROM/DVD and Video Conferencing are the types of Modern Information and Communication Technologies tools used by LIS Students and that there are numerous purposes of using modern technologies tools by Library and Information Students amongst which are, to access library resources, to access information about events and to disseminate and share digital content. The study further recommend that Educators (Lecturers) should be acquitted with the use of modern technologies, so as to be able to utilize it well to teach their students and that Students should be disciplined when using these modern technologies as distractions are inevitable when learning with it.
