ABSTRACT
The study explored impact of mobile library services for effective service delivery in academic libraries. The descriptive survey research technique was adopted for the study and a well-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. All the category of staff (Professional, Para-Professional and Non-Professional staff) at John Harris Library, University of Benin, Benin, Edo State were used for the study.
The purpose of the study was aimed at identifying the types of Mobile technologies used in Academic libraries, determine the types of Mobile library services carried out in Academic Libraries, ascertain the impact of Mobile libraries services on service delivery in Academic Libraries and investigate the challenges affecting Mobile library services in Academic Libraries. A total of 173 copies of the questionnaires were distributed to the respondents and 157 questionnaires were retrieved and found usable, resulting to a 90.8% response rate.
In the light of the findings of this study, the following recommendations were made: Library administrators should device alternate ways to overcome some of the perennial challenges such as power, There should be regular training programs for staff to improve their knowledge in using mobile devices for marketing Mobile library and information products and services, The library management should make sure that staff is given adequate orientation on how to manage and handle IT facilities to overcome the problem of poor maintenance culture.
