ABSTRACT

The study was to investigate the impact of media on the teaching and learning of Economics and Statistics in Tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Five (5) research questions were raised and literature of other researchers were reviewed.

The study adopted the descriptive survey research design, data was collected through the aid of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was structured according to the research questions and distributed to sample population of 63 respondents.

The findings of the study revealed that photographic media influence the teaching and learning of Economics and Statistics in Tertiary institutions. Students perform better academically when they are taught with photographic pictures. Audio media influence the teaching and learning of Economics and Statistics in Tertiary institutions. Students can be taught and listen to teachings at their own convenience, thus making the teaching and learning process more effective. Television/video influence the teaching and learning of Economics and Statistics in Tertiary institutions. It was however recommended that tertiary institutions should ensure that adequate and up-to-date print media are made available to students for effective learning; and School management should ensure that graphic media is made available for the teaching and learning in tertiary institutions so as to aid students learning process.
