ABSTRACT
In spite of the fact that majority of Nigerians live in the rural area and are directly or indirectly dependent on agricultural activities as a means of livelihood, the rate of infrastructural development in the rural area remains a source of concern. This study was carried out to assess the state of infrastructure and its effect on the social and economic status of the individuals’ engaged in agricultural activities in Ologbo community in Ikpoba-okha local government area of Edo state, Nigeria. Stratified random sampling technique was employed in selecting 152 individuals engaging in various agricultural activities which include, crop farming, lumbering, fish farming, livestock farming, food crop processing and plantation agriculture. Data was analysed using descriptive statistic. The result of the analysis shows that, major infrastructures that support agricultural, social and economic development are in a very poor state and negatively impact then social and economic status of the residents. It is recommended that government should focus on the development of infrastructures like road, electricity, local market, dispensary/maternity, storage and irrigation facilities, so as to enhance agricultural productivity and income of the individuals in the study area.
