Summary

In summary, this study aimed to investigate the issue of incessant strike actions in Nigerian universities and their impact on the psychological well-being of academic staff. The research question focused on identifying ways to put an end to strikes and ameliorate the negative effects on staff. The findings revealed several key insights. Firstly, the majority of respondents emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving strike actions. They believed that constructive communication between stakeholders is crucial for reaching agreements and preventing prolonged strikes. However, there was a lack of trust and confidence in the Nigerian government's commitment to meeting the demands of academic staff. The study also found that strikes have a significant negative impact on the morale of academic staff. The constant disruptions and uncertainty associated with strikes contribute to stress and dissatisfaction among staff members. Teaching programs and research activities are also frequently suspended during strike periods, causing further disruptions to academic work and research productivity.
