ABSTRACT

The study assessed the impact of incessant strike action in the tertiary institution on students’ academic activities. A survey research design which involves collection of data through the use of questionnaire was adopted to solicit information. The population of the study is made up of students in the University Of Benin, Benin City. The sample size for this study consisted of two hundred students in the Faculty of Education. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation.

The findings revealed that strike action highly affects students' academics and leaves a negative effect on students studying habit. Hence, the period of strike does not produce an opportunity for students to carry out serious assignments and studies.

It was recommended that government should provide adequate funding to the various tertiary institutions in the country. The disruption of academic programs by staff unions through industrial actions have significant undesirable negative influence on academic success of the students. The study therefore concludes that strike is inimical to academic success and as such should be avoided. Strike action is a major clog in the wheel of academic progress and the cause of lack of functional education.
