ABSTRACT
Thisstudywascarriedouttoexamine the impact of illegal dumpsite on environmental quality in Ovia North East Local Government of Edo State. The descriptive survey research method was employed inthestudy.The population for the study was 153,849 from which a random sampling technique was use to select 240 respondents for the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire of 15 items. Thedataobtainedwereanalyzedusingfrequencycountandsimplepercentage.
The study found that illegal dumpsite leads to air, land/water pollution, the water around illegal dumpsite are usually not healthy for consumption. Also, illegal dumpsite increases the risk of fire hazard during dry season/harmattan period. The study also found that the residents of Ovia North East LGA have a positive attitude towards illegal dumpsite in the local government. The researcher recommended that there should be provision of temporary trash bins both independently by the community members, community leaders should coordinate the behavior of community members regarding waste management practices. Also, enlightenment campaigns should be carried out often to sensitize the residents In Ovia North East LGA on the need for a quality environment
