ABSTRACT

The advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has significantly transformed legal landscapes globally, influencing various aspects of the judicial process. This research explores the impact of ICT on the admissibility of evidence within the Nigerian legal system. Also, there seems to be a lack of understanding of the impact of ICT on the admissibility of evidence in the Nigerian legal system. This has led to uncertainty and inconsistency in the application of the law. Thus, this research aims to investigate this issue and provide recommendations for improving the legal framework. The study investigates the integration of modern technological tools, such as electronic documents, digital forensics, and electronic signatures, and assesses their effect on the traditional rules governing the admissibility of evidence in Nigerian courts. The findings will reveal both opportunities and challenges associated with the use of ICT in evidence presentation and authentication. Key factors influencing the admissibility of electronic evidence, including reliability, authenticity, and the legal recognition of digital signatures, will also be examined. Furthermore, it will explore potential areas for legal reform and policy development to ensure the seamless integration of ICT in the Nigerian legal system while maintaining the integrity of the judicial process. This project research contributes valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on the intersection of technology and the law, specifically addressing the implications of ICT on evidence admissibility in the Nigerian context. The outcome will aim to inform policymakers, legal practitioners, and technology specialists, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the evolving dynamics in the realm of legal evidence presentation and authentication in an increasingly digitized era.
