Abstract

It is apparent that Information and Communications Technologies are indispensable tools for the success of every academic endeavor in the contemporary age of information and technology revolution. The study investigated the impact of ICT in promoting the reading culture of undergraduate students in University of Benin, Benin City. Six (6) research questions were raised for the study out of which three (3) hypotheses were formulated. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 483 undergraduate students from the target population of 9633 as the sample for the study. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled Questionnaire on Impact of Information Communication Technology on Students’ Reading Culture” (QIICTSRC). It was validated by the researchers’ supervisor and its reliability was established at 0.84 using Cronbach alpha method. The demographic data was presented in frequency tables and analyzed using percentages. Research questions 1, 2 and 6 were analyzed using mean and rank order respectively. Hypothesis 1 was tested using t-test statistics of two independent samples, hypothesis 2 was tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient statistics while hypothesis 3 was tested using One sample t-test. All the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance.
