ABSTRACT

This study examined the impact of food productivity on economic growth in Nigeria, the study adopted. The study adopted regression technique using co-integration and Error Correction Methodology (ECM).to analyse the hypotheses of the study. The result revealed that Food productivity has negative significant impact on economic growth in Nigeria with reference to the period under study. There is significant correlation between the nature of food production and economic growth in Nigeria. The study recommended that there is the need for the Nigerian government and its citizenry to concentrate their combined efforts towards increasing the productivity capacity of the agricultural sector with the aim of promoting food security and economic growth. The work posited that agricultural productivity can only be achieved when there is increased agricultural output at both the micro and macro- level of the economy. The long run effect of such is sustainable economic growth and development.
