ABSTRACT

This research paper delves into the critical issue of waste management and the pivotal role of waste segregation in mitigating its adverse effects. Recognizing the potential of environmental education in shaping individual perspectives and behaviors towards environmental concerns, with a specific focus on waste segregation, the study employed a quasi-experimental research design. The sample consisted of 50 students, evenly divided between the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Human Kinetics and Sports (HKS) departments. Data was collected through a meticulously structured questionnaire, which underwent rigorous validation by the project supervisor and two additional lecturers from the HSE department. The findings revealed that students exposed to environmental education demonstrated significantly heightened levels of knowledge and more positive attitudes towards waste segregation, as compared to their counterparts who received no such instruction. The study concludes with a series of recommendations aimed at fostering effective environmental education practices within university settings, thereby bolstering waste management efforts and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
