ABSTRACT
This research study examined the impact of communication in achieving organisational goal of prompt attention to patient in University of Benin Teaching Hospital. the descriptive survey method was used for the research work and the method of data collection were through the aid of questionnaire, One Hundred and fifty (150) questionnaires were produced and distributed to the sampled population by the researcher. In this study, three objectives were raised: To examine role of communication in achieving organizational goals in healthcare management in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, to examine if communication enhances organizational performance in healthcare management in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, to ascertain whether communication gap has affected administration structure procedure in healthcare management in the University of Teaching Hospital. The study found out that information overload is a major problem to communication effectiveness. Also, the use of wrong channel is also a problem to communication in achieving organizational goals. The presence of noise in the healthcare environment can reduce effective communication as noise is a serious barrier to effective communication. The research therefore made the following recommendations that Information overload should be discouraged, Message should be transmitted in the quantity the recipient can decode and interpret, Messages should be repeated to prevent misunderstanding, the research advices that problems should always be communicated quickly because delays cost money. Appropriate channels of communication should be selected for transmitting information as the choice of channel is a function of the nature of the message to be transmitted. Communication is considered complete when a feedback is given to a message, this should be encouraged as a way of confirming how successful a good communication can be enhanced in the healthcare sector.
